Bret Merkle graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Juris Doctorate (JD Law) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Bret also graduated from the prestigious Trial Lawyers College founded by the legendary Gerry Spence and taught there as a staff instructor from 2001 thru 2004. Bret has been practicing law since 1991 specializing in civil litigation of bodily injury cases. Bret is a member of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, the South Dakota Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Bret’s Story
Bret grew up in Woonsocket, a small town in east central S.D. He is married to the love of his life, Maria. Together they have 5 children. Bret is also an injury survivor. He was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him partially paralyzed and he lost his right leg below the knee. Bret and Maria wrote a book called Tragic Blessing telling their inspirational story of faith and victory over tragedy. He is a sought-after speaker and has spoken in churches, schools, prisons throughout the US for the past 20 years sharing his story of inspiration and hope. Bret’s passion to help injured people comes from his own unique personal experience living with injuries, which motivates him to pursue justice for them.
